Track lighting offers a versatile lighting solution and is available in a range of finishes to suit your decor. Chrome track lighting is a more decorative alternative to a plain black or white finish that suits modern interiors.
Linear chrome track lighting can be surface mounted, recessed or suspended. Which installation method is best to choose depends on the ceiling height and material, as well as personal preference.
Surface mounting offers the most straightforward installation, with track fixed directly to the ceiling. Recessing track, so it is flush with the ceiling surface, is more complex and isn’t suitable for all ceiling materials. Both of these options are low profile and suitable for domestic settings with regular ceiling heights.
If you have a high ceiling or vaulted ceiling, suspending track lowers the light level. Suspended track can also provide a decorative feature, for example placed over a kitchen island or dining table. A suspension kit will include adjustable wires so that the track can be hung at your desired height. Track can be used even on a sloping ceiling, on a drop ceiling or on wood beams, where hanging pendants can be more problematic.
Chrome track lighting is available in various lengths, depending on your requirements. Joiner or connector accessories can link lengths of track together to form track systems in a wide range of shapes and dimensions. There are L and T connector types to join track at corners or into T junctions. This flexibility of design makes track suitable for a range of settings around the home, from a bedroom to hallway, living room to kitchen or bathroom.
Fixtures which are mounted to track are called track lighting heads. There are various head types available in a polished chrome finish, ranging from basic spotlights to vintage designs. Track lighting heads could use a halogen or LED globe, such as a GU10. LED bulbs are often preferred, for their energy efficiency, long lifespan and excellent quality of light. An LED globe in a warm white colour temperature (around 3000K) creates a warm and inviting ambience. It is recommended to choose dimmable lamps so you can adjust the light level as preferred.
High quality track lighting kits offer an easy way to buy chrome track lighting, with all the components needed for a complete solution. Plug in track kits are a useful option if you are looking for a system which requires no hard wiring, for example in a garage. These kits are provided with plug so they can be powered directly from a power outlet.
An alternative to linear track which allows you to combine track heads and pendants is monorail track lighting. Monorail uses flexible rails, hung just below the ceiling height, offering curved or circular track options. Monorail is usually low voltage so the electrical connection differs from linear track which is line voltage, with a cable entering the track through an end power feed.
