Track lighting is a versatile and customisable lighting solution which can be used around the home. Dining room track lighting can provide a blend of ambient, task and accent lighting for entertaining and socialising.
Dining room track lighting can be surface mounted, recessed or suspended. The best installation method to choose depends on the ceiling height, ceiling material and your personal preference and decor style.
The simplest and most popular method of installation is surface mounting, where the track is attached directly to the ceiling surface. This is a low profile and unobtrusive option. In contemporary interiors where a clean and uncluttered look is required, you may prefer to recess track. This sets the track into the ceiling, to sit flush with the ceiling surface. However, installation of recessed track is more complex and this method is not suitable for some ceiling materials, such as concrete.
Track can also be suspended, by using adjustable wires to bring the lighting level down from the ceiling. Light can be hung at your required height, so this is a popular choice for spaces with high or vaulted ceilings. Dining room track lighting can use suspended track as a decorative feature, suspending fittings over a dining table, for example.
Track is available in a variety of lengths, usually in multiples of a metre. White and black are the most common finishes. White track blends well with most ceilings, but black track can provide more of a statement and suits industrial style buildings such as converted warehouses or factories. A wide range of track accessories are available which can be used to join lengths together at corners, cross-sections or T junctions, creating any size or configuration of track layout required. Track lights can be placed to direct light exactly where it is required.
Track lighting uses LEDs, which give the flexibility to tailor a track solution to your exact requirements. LED track lights are available in a choice of beam angles, colour temperatures and wattages. Narrow beam angles can provide task light or accent artwork or architectural features. A wide beam angle will give an ambient, wall wash effect. Track lighting is often dimmable, so the light level can be adjusted according to the time of day, natural light available and your desired ambience.
For entertaining, a warm and inviting ambience can be created by choosing LEDs with a warm colour temperature, around 3000K. This will give a cozy light that is similar to fire or candlelight.
